The Civic Ballet of SLO Presents Drew Slivaggio’s – RODEO: The Courting at Burnt Ranch
Join the Civic Ballet for Drew Silvaggio’s contemporary retelling of Agnes De Mille’s celebrated ballet, Rodeo. Silvaggio’s Rodeo is a love story set against the backdrop of the trying times of the great American Dust Bowl. Rodeo focuses on “Cow Girl” and the “Head Wrangler” of Burnt Ranch. The former, explores the world of identity and roles she must fill to rope in what she ultimately wants. Rodeo: The Courting at Burnt Ranch is a contemporary dance multimedia event, with an updated orchestration that will have your feet tapping. Featuring music from; Aaron Copeland, Garth Brooks, Dolly Parton, Skeeter Davis and other good ole’ country favorites. Rodeo is suitable for all ages.
Returning for an encore performance is La Fille Mal Gardee – The Defiant Daughter. This performance features classical ballet mixed with folk style dance, comedy, detailed characters, and poetic lyricism perfectly suited to its story of young love. In this pastoral comedy, a farmer’s widow is determined to marry her daughter off to a wealthy man’s son rather than to the poor farmer with whom she is head-over-heels smitten. The picture-book countryside setting of maypoles and dancing hens add to the storybook happy ending of this old English tale.
